DevOps: An Ally for Security Practitioners

This presentation will cover the role of DevOps in a rapidly growing environment, introduce CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery) concepts and discuss recent security automation projects which include O365 firewall/proxy whitelisting, Tetration/ACI Application Modeling and Network Access Control with ISE.

This is a great opportunity for security practitioners to learn how they can leverage existing DevOps teams to deliver security services efficiently, as well as understand the pros and cons of popular DevOps tools such as Openshift, Jenkins pipelines, and the use of static code analysis tools such as Checkmarx and SonarQube.

This will be an interactive session, so come with questions and an open mind.

About our Speakers:

Alan Snow started his career in the military back in 2009 where he served as a Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) Automated Tactical Data Systems Specialist and picked up application development after transitioning to civilian life. As a developer he focused on .NET, iOS/Android, and the use of front end Javascript frameworks.

3 years ago he joined the DevOps team at Spectrum Health as a senior engineer. He is currently responsible for CI/CD pipelines, automation and moving .Net Core, Java, Perl and Javascript based applications into one enterprise container platform. He enjoys developing processes that help integrate security and code quality tools in organizations.

Alan also enjoys giving back to the community and currently serves on the advisory board of the Muskegon area career technical centers, where he helps kids learn and prepare for technical careers.

Forrest Throesch has over 10 years of experience in various areas of IT with majority of those years spent as a network engineer focused on routers, switches, firewalls, proxies and load balancers.

5 years ago he shifted his focus to DevOps and has since served as a lead systems engineer on a growing team at Spectrum Health, in this role he’s responsible for the automation and orchestration of infrastructure services as well as supporting the organization’s cloud initiative. He writes most of his codes in python and ansible, and is committed to making on-prem infrastructure services available with a click of a button.

He also holds a Bachelor’s degree from Davenport University and collects custom mechanical keyboards for fun.
